Volunteer Spotlight

Frank & Nancy Hulse have been volunteering at the Lighthouse for over 10 years on a once-a-month basis as Chapel Leaders, providing Biblical teaching and a time of worship through song. Their first experience in volunteering began in 2001 as they ministered to prisoners through the Kairos Prison Ministry. Frank as an “inside” volunteer going into the prisons for various weekends and weekly meetings and Nancy assisting on the “outside” team when her work schedule allowed. Together the Lord blessed them tremendously in these roles and set them on a path to ministering to those in need.

In 2017 Nancy had the opportunity to start teaching at the Lighthouse twice a week and has been faithful ever since. She stated, “Teaching at the Lighthouse is such an enjoyable experience! The residents of the Lighthouse are genuinely interested in bettering their lives and being a part of that success is a ‘high’ that nothing in this world can offer! The people I’ve met over the years have become friends and many have become brothers & sisters in Christ through the ministry of the Lighthouse.”

In 2022, after COVID, Frank’s health kept him from volunteering at the Dick Connor’s Correctional Facility in Hominy, and Nancy told him that the Lighthouse was looking for another teacher and that perhaps he too would enjoy teaching in the same capacity as she was. As a result, they are both now teaching twice a week utilizing the gifts that God has given them to assist those in need. Frank said, “It is good to feel like you’re being useful and helpful. Here at the Lighthouse, whether it is in the dorms or dining room, the chapel or classroom, there is a kindness that permeates the facility. It is a safe place to regroup, rebuild or find a fresh start. I find joy in volunteering here. Being a part of something in our community that is a unique example of Christ’s followers being the hands and feet of Jesus, is a blessing of great value!”
